Employee Wellness Workshops: Corporate & Workplace Programs

Supporting employee wellness does not have to mean another presentation, a generic incentive or a program employees forget about as soon as it ends. The right wellness workshop gives people an opportunity to step away from their regular responsibilities, learn something new and connect through a shared experience.

The Urban Botanist offers interactive, plant-focused workshops for team-building, staff appreciation and client engagement. Available in virtual and in-person formats, each 60-minute workshop is designed to be fun, educational and easy for employers to organize. Virtual DIY kits include the materials participants need and can be shipped across Canada and the USA.

Whether your goal is to improve employee engagement, support mental well-being or bring your team together, our workshops offer a refreshing addition to your corporate wellness programs.

What Are Employee Wellness Programs?

Employee wellness programs are organized activities or initiatives intended to support employee well-being and create a healthier, more positive work environment.

A workplace wellness program can include many different elements. Some employers focus on physical activity, health education, gym memberships or an employee incentive. Others include creative activities, mindfulness experiences, team-building events and opportunities for employees to take a meaningful break together.

The Urban Botanist’s workshops provide a hands-on option for companies looking to expand their wellness initiatives beyond traditional presentations or fitness-based programs. Participants build something of their own while learning about plants, plant care, terrariums, moss or gardening.

Our Plant Guru Wellness Workshop is especially well suited to workplace wellness. The session covers Plant Care 101, practical tips for growing a green thumb and a mindfulness activity that invites participants to pause with plants and destress. The 60-minute virtual session can accommodate an unlimited number of participants, and employers can add individual plant and pot kits when desired.

A plant workshop is not a replacement for professional mental health support. It can, however, provide employees with a calm, engaging pause in their day while supporting connection, learning and stress management.

The Benefits of Employee Wellness Workshops

An effective wellness activity should feel useful and enjoyable to the people participating in it. It should also be manageable for the employer organizing the event.

The Urban Botanist’s workplace workshops are fully guided, interactive and designed for groups. They can support several important workplace goals.

Create space to pause

Busy employees do not always have natural opportunities to slow down during the workday. A wellness workshop gives participants permission to step away from regular tasks and focus on a creative, hands-on activity.

The Plant Guru Wellness Workshop includes a mindfulness activity designed around pausing with plants and destressing. Other DIY workshops also allow participants to work with natural materials while following guided instruction.

Strengthen employee engagement

Employees are more likely to participate in workplace wellness when the activity feels approachable and interactive. Instead of simply listening to a speaker, participants build a terrarium, arrange a moss frame, pot a succulent or create another project they can keep.

This format encourages questions, conversation and active participation throughout the session.

Support team connection

A shared workshop can help people interact outside their normal roles and responsibilities. It provides a natural team-building experience without relying on competitive games or forced icebreakers.

The Urban Botanist offers workshops specifically for team building, staff appreciation and client engagement. Previous corporate participants have described the sessions as engaging, informative, fun and high-energy.

"Everyone on the team LOVED the event, and I really appreciate all you did to ensure the logistics ran smoothly. Thank you!" - Aria, Google

Recognize employees in a meaningful way

A workshop can also be used as a staff appreciation incentive. Employees receive an experience as well as something they have made themselves.

Rather than providing a standard gift, companies can offer employees a complete DIY kit, a guided activity and a finished plant project to enjoy after the event.

Make wellness easier to organize

Corporate wellness should not create additional stress for the person planning it. The Urban Botanist provides fully packaged events that are designed to be easy for companies to coordinate.

For virtual events, the DIY kits include the required tools and supplies. Kits are typically delivered to participants before the scheduled event, and the live workshop is led by The Urban Botanist.

What Types of Corporate Wellness Activities Are Most Effective?

The most effective wellness activities are appropriate for the team, easy to access and connected to the organization’s goals.

Some companies may want an activity that supports stress management. Others may be trying to improve morale, recognize employees, strengthen workplace culture or create more opportunities for team connection.

The Urban Botanist offers several corporate wellness activities that can be selected based on the season, group and occasion.

Plant Guru Wellness Workshop

This 60-minute virtual wellness workshop introduces participants to plant care while including a mindfulness activity focused on pausing with plants and destressing.

It is a strong option for a large workplace because there is no maximum number of participants. Employers can also add plant and pot kits for individual attendees.

Classic Terrarium Workshop

Participants create a terrarium using a glass vessel, succulents, organic soil, decorative moss and additional decor. The kit includes the necessary materials and a one-hour virtual session with The Urban Botanist.

This workshop combines education, creativity and a finished project participants can continue to care for.

Sealed Terrarium Workshop

The Sealed Terrarium Workshop includes a cork-lid glass vessel, tropical plants, live moss, soil, decor and a guided virtual session. Sealed terrariums require no routine watering once properly established, making them an approachable option for participants with different levels of plant experience.

DIY Moss Frame Workshop

Participants use preserved moss, a frame and non-toxic glue to create their own botanical artwork. Because preserved moss does not require regular plant care, this workshop can be a good fit for employees who want a creative project without taking home a living plant.

Succulent Potted Plant Workshop

This guided workshop includes a succulent, pot, soil, shovel, decorative stones and a customizable plant pick. It offers a simple, hands-on introduction to plant care.

Succulent Urban Mini Garden

Participants create a larger arrangement using a wooden planter box, a variety of succulents, soil and decorative materials. The workshop provides a collaborative event atmosphere while allowing everyone to complete an individual project.

DIY Native Seed Bomb Workshop

This workshop connects workplace wellness with nature and environmental learning. Kits include non-toxic red clay, organic soil, native wildflower seeds and a compostable container. Participants learn while making seed bombs designed to support native plants and pollinators.

Seasonal Wellness Workshops

Seasonal programming can help companies keep their wellness initiatives fresh throughout the year.

Available options include:

  • Winter Wellness Terrarium Workshop
  • Spring Seedling Starter Kit
  • Earth Day Plant Workshop
  • Autumn Planter Box
  • Ceramic Pumpkin Planter
  • Holiday Box Workshop
  • Holiday Wreath Workshop
  • Holiday Gold Ring Wreath Workshop
  • Holiday Centrepiece Workshop

Each seasonal workshop includes guided instruction and the materials specified for that project.

A strong corporate wellness calendar may include different activities throughout the year rather than relying only on physical activity, gym memberships or a single annual employee health event. View our full workshop catalogue.

Customized Employee Wellness Workshops

Every organization has different goals, group sizes and employee needs. A customized employee wellness workshop allows the employer to select an activity that fits the occasion and workplace culture.

The Urban Botanist’s workshop kits are capable of customizable branding, giving companies the option to incorporate their organization into the event experience.

Customization can include selecting the most appropriate workshop, choosing a seasonal program, adding a plant kit to a webinar-style session or using customized plant picks where available.

Companies can choose from experiences focused on:

  • Plant care and education
  • Mindfulness and mental well-being
  • Terrarium building
  • Succulent planting
  • Preserved moss art
  • Native plants and pollinators
  • Seasonal gardening
  • Holiday decor

The result is a corporate wellness experience that feels connected to the company’s goals rather than copied from a standard workplace wellness program.

Supporting Workplace Culture Through Shared Experiences

Workplace culture is shaped by how employees experience their organization, including whether they feel recognized, connected and given opportunities to participate.

A shared wellness workshop gives employees something to talk about and create together. It can also provide a welcome change from meetings, presentations and regular workplace responsibilities.

The goal is not to make unrealistic promises about productivity or employee health. Instead, the workshop creates a structured opportunity to learn, interact and take a purposeful pause.

That can make plant-focused programming a valuable addition to broader corporate wellness programs, employee appreciation plans and team engagement initiatives.

The finished project also extends the experience beyond the event. Participants leave with a terrarium, plant, moss frame, planter or seasonal creation that can continue to brighten their home or workspace.
