Big News in the Wildest Way
Something incredible has taken root behind the scenes, and it’s finally time to share.
The Urban Botanist is now a Conservation Ambassador with The Wilder Institute!
From the very beginning, The Urban Botanist was rooted in a love for nature and a deep need to stay connected to it, even in the middle of a city. It started with a biology degree, a terrarium kit, and a dream to bring people closer to the wild world around them.
This role is a dream come true. It means stepping deeper into the field, capturing wildlife stories that most people never get to see, and sharing them in a way that feels personal, powerful, and full of wonder.
It’s been hard to keep this quiet because it’s just… the coolest thing ever.
Meet The Wilder Institute
This is where the story gets even more inspiring. The Wilder Institute is a conservation organization based in Canada that focuses on something truly powerful: bringing species back to the wild and giving them a real shot at survival. They’re not just studying wildlife from a distance, they’re out there reintroducing animals to their native habitats, rebuilding populations, and helping people reconnect with the ecosystems around them.
Their team includes conservation scientists, veterinarians, researchers, and community partners who are working directly with species at risk. From northern leopard frogs to whooping cranes, every conservation project is backed by science and built around deep respect for the species they care for.
One of the most beautiful things about The Wilder Institute’s work is the way it centers both nature and people. Their community conservation programs are designed to collaborate with local voices and cultural knowledge, which means real change can take root and grow in a lasting way.
Their rewilding efforts are supported by places like the Archibald Biodiversity Centre, where species are nurtured and prepared for life back in the wild. These spaces feel like hope in action. They’re bringing animals home.
Everything about their mission feels familiar. The passion for native species. The belief that nature is worth protecting at every scale. Conservation weaves into daily life through the choices we make and the care we bring to the places we love. That’s exactly what made this collaboration feel like such a natural fit.
What This Role Looks Like in the Wild
The role of Conservation Ambassador is all about sharing conservation work as it’s happening. That means being in the field with researchers, documenting species at risk, and creating digital content that brings those moments to life for a wider audience.
The best part? Getting to turn real conservation work into something people can experience. One moment it’s a scientist explaining a species recovery plan, and the next it’s being shaped into a story that pulls you in and makes you feel part of it. Translating those moments into something visual and alive has been such a joyful process.
This includes visiting conservation sites, filming species reintroduction efforts, learning directly from biologists and vets, and using that footage to spark awareness, action, and curiosity. Some content will be shared in long-form visual stories, some in quick clips and posts. All of it is meant to make conservation feel more visible, more personal, and more accessible.
Behind the Scenes: What I’ve Been Up To Lately
Things have been shifting a little behind the scenes lately. There’s been more time outdoors, more filming days, and a growing library of content that’s starting to take on a new shape.
As Conservation Storyteller, Wildlife Content Creator, and Digital Conservation Ambassador, the focus right now is capturing what’s happening in the field and turning it into something people can connect with. This means documenting species recovery work and the people doing it, then shaping those experiences into stories that show what conservation looks like in motion.
You’ll start to see pieces of it show up soon. It’s already starting to take shape, and honestly, it feels like the beginning of something really special.
What This Means for The Urban Botanist
To everyone who’s followed along through terrarium builds, plant hauls, mossy hikes, and native species deep dives, this next chapter was made with you in mind.
This new role brings fresh energy into the work. There will be field visits, wildlife stories, and moments that feel wild in the best way. All of it was created through the same lens that’s shaped every part of this community from the beginning.
This space has always been about wonder. About noticing what’s growing, learning something new, and feeling a little more connected because of it. That part is only getting stronger.
Follow along on Instagram, YouTube, and the newsletter. What’s ahead is already starting to bloom.
Let’s Get Wild Together
There’s deep gratitude to The Wilder Institute for welcoming this kind of storytelling into their work. For the chance to learn from their team, witness conservation in action, and bring those moments to life through a different lens.
What’s ahead feels alive with possibility. Thanks for being here to grow it together.
